Blindwalker

Nel dicembre del 2008 sono stata invitata da 98weeks project space di Beiruth a partecipare ad un workshop con l’artista Francis Alys ed il critico Quatemoc Medina sull’idea di mappatura della città. Scelgo di lavorare dentro e con la pratica del “camminatore” per eccellenza, proponendo a Francis Alys un percorso alla cieca. 

La video documentazione registra questo attraversamento in cui i due soggetti vestiti allo stesso modo diventano visivamente un unico elemento nel caotico agglomerato urbano della città libanese. Decido quindi di accompagnare, come nei giochi infantili, Alys tenendolo per mano e dandogli i comandi di questo peregrinare fino a giungere alla Risk Tower. La torre, di valore strategico-militare, è uno degli edifici più̀ alti della città e solo alla fine del percorso da una scala senza parapetto, quasi persa nel vuoto, la vista è restituita.

In December 2008, I was invited by 98weeks project space in Beirut to participate in a workshop with artist Francis Alÿs and critic Quatemoc Medina on the idea of city mapping. I chose to work within and with the practice of the “walker” par excellence, proposing to Francis Alÿs a blind walk.
The video documentation records this crossing in which the two subjects, dressed in the same way, become visually one single element in the chaotic urban agglomeration of the Lebanese city. I decided to accompany, as in children’s games, Alÿs by holding his hand and giving him commands on this wandering until we reached the Risk Tower. The tower, of strategic-military value, is one of the tallest buildings in the city, and only at the end of the path, by a stairway without a handrail, almost lost in the void, is the view revealed.
