Elena Bellantoni (1975) vive e lavora a Roma, è docente all’Accademia di Belle Arti L’Aquila e alla NABA di Roma. Dopo essersi laureata in Storia dell’Arte Contemporanea, studia a Parigi e Londra, dove nel 2007 ottiene un MA in Visual Art al WCA all’University of Arts London. Nel 2007 è cofondatrice Platform Translation Group a Londra, nel 2008 apre lo spazio 91mQ art project space di Berlino, nel 2015 è co-fondatrice di Wunderbar Cultural Project. La sua ricerca artistica si concentra sui concetti di identità ed alterità utilizzando il corpo come mezzo di interazione. I dispositivi che l’artista utilizza vanno dal video, alla fotografia, alle installazioni, dalle sculture al disegno. Nel 2024 Bellantoni viene selezionata tra gli artisti finalisti del Mario Merz Prize alla Fondazione Merz di Torino. Nel 2023 l’artista apre la sfilata di Dior primavera-estate 2024 con l’installazione NOT HER presso i Giardini delle Tuileries di Parigi.

Elena Bellantoni ha vinto numerosi progetti per residenze: 2020 Premio ArtTeam Cup, nel 2018 grazie a Nctm e l’Arte Studio Legale vince il bando per una residenza a Belgrado, Serbia; nel 2017 The Subtle Urgencies, con Adrian Paci, alla Fondazione Pistoletto e l’ArtHouse, Biella-Scutari, Italia/Albania; nel 2016 viene selezionata dalla Soma Mexico Residency di Città del Messico; nel 2009 As long as I’m walking una residenza con Francis Alÿs e il critico Cuauthémoc Medina, curata da 98weeks Research, a Beirut in Libano.
Nel 2018 è tra gli artisti vincitori della IV edizione dell’Italian Council del MIBACT; nel 2019 presenta il libro dell’intero progetto al MAXXI di Roma con un Focus sul suo lavoro. Nel 2018 il progetto Ho annegato il Mare è selezionato nei Collateral di Manifesta12 a Palermo. Lo stesso anno viene selezionata per Gran Tour d’Italie del MIBACT . Nel 2014 vince il Premio speciale Repubblica.it per il Talent Prize; il progetto In Other Words, the Black Market of Translation – Negotiating Contemporary Cultures nel 2011 vince il bando NGBK a Berlino. Nel 2009 vince il Movin’up Worldwide del GAI (Giovani Artisti Italiani) dalla Presidenza Consiglio dei Ministri Italiano; nel 2006 il primo premio del Tempelhof-Schöneberg Kunstpreis Zum Ball-Spiel di Berlino.

Elena Bellantoni (1975) lives and works in Rome. She teaches at Rome Academy of Fine Arts and at NABA Rome. After graduating in Contemporary Art History, she continued her studies in Paris and London, where in 2007 she obtained an MA in Visual Art from WCA at the University of the Arts London.

In 2007 she co-founded Platform Translation Group in London; in 2008 she opened 91mQ art project space in Berlin; and in 2015 she co-founded Wunderbar Cultural Project. Her artistic research focuses on the concepts of identity and alterity, using the body as a tool for interaction. Language and the word become embodied — exploratory devices of the world-system — which the artist translates through video, photography, installation, sculpture, and drawing. In 2024, Bellantoni was selected as one of the finalist artists for the Mario Merz Prize at the Merz Foundation in Turin. In 2023, the artist opened Dior’s Spring-Summer 2024 fashion show with the installation NOT HER at the Tuileries Garden in Paris.

Bellantoni has been awarded several artist residency prizes: in 2020 the ArtTeam Cup Award; in 2018, thanks to Nctm and L’Arte Studio Legale, she was selected for a residency in Belgrade, Serbia; in 2017 The Subtle Urgencies, with Adrian Paci, promoted by Fondazione Pistoletto and ArtHouse, Biella-Shkodër, Italy/Albania; in 2016 she was selected for SOMA Mexico Residency in Mexico City; and in 2009 As long as I’m walking, a residency with Francis Alÿs and curator Cuauhtémoc Medina, organized by 98weeks Research in Beirut, Lebanon.

In 2018 she was among the winners of the 4th edition of the Italian Council (MIBACT). In 2019 she presented the book dedicated to the entire project at MAXXI in Rome with a focus on her work. In 2018 her project I Drowned the Sea (Ho annegato il mare) was selected in the Collateral Events of Manifesta 12 in Palermo. That same year, she was selected for Grand Tour d’Italie promoted by MIBACT. In 2014 she was awarded the Special Prize Repubblica.it within the Talent Prize; in 2011 her project In Other Words, the Black Market of Translation – Negotiating Contemporary Cultures won the NGBK Open Call in Berlin. In 2009 she received the Movin’Up Worldwide grant from GAI (Giovani Artisti Italiani), supported by the Italian Prime Minister’s Office; and in 2006 she was awarded first prize at the Tempelhof-Schöneberg Kunstpreis Zum Ball-Spiel in Berlin.
